The U.S. Mission in Kathmandu, Nepal is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of General Maintenance Worker. This vacancy is open to all interested applicants.

Working in the Facility Management Section of the U.S. Embassy, the General Maintenance Worker carries out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and minor repair work on the plumbing system and fixtures, general welding and masonry work in all mission buildings and facilities including residential owned and leased properties.

The incumbent performs preventive maintenance by inspecting, adjusting and troubleshooting minor plumbing systems and fixtures, welding equipment and supplies, safety equipment, concrete and masonry walls, floor and ceiling assemblies, and other items upon coordinating with other trades.

Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of plumbing and commercial or industrial HVAC/mechanical heating, refrigeration and ventilation systems is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge on the standard plumbing method and techniques is required. Knowledge about the testing procedure to monitor and diagnose faults is required.

Education Requirements: Completion of secondary school is required and/or completion of vocational training from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman level technicians with specialization in the plumbing and general construction fields is required.

Evaluations: These may be tested (Language, Skills and Abilities):

LANGUAGE: Limited Knowledge of Reading/Writing/Speaking English is required. Good Working Knowledge of Reading/Writing/Speaking Nepali is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to identify technical problems or dangers, report issues and provide solution is required. Communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to work as part of a team, work under pressure and a tight schedule is required. Valid local Class A and B driver’s license is required.
